Atis Jākobsons
Atis Jākobsons, one of the brightest Latvian artists of his generation, works with graphics, photography and installations. Jākobsons has joined that current of artists drawn to studying the Universe and who in recent decades have explored the intersection of physics and mysticism, seeking to remind us that there is more that is unknown than known in the world.
The artist’s series of painted portraits can be viewed as a romantically conceptual experiment in the contemporary portraiture genre, which is driven by the desire to understand oneself through portraying others. Jākobsons’ sensually refined, tonal manner of painting three homoerotic male portraits embodies both academic and contemporary painting traditions.
