Pēteris Līdaka

Pēteris Līdaka uses a variety of media, including drawing, illustration, sculpture, animation and photography, to study the world of his imagination and fantasy and turn this into art. In the imagination of this curious, passionate artist, traditional conceptions of aeroplanes are replaced with a childish view of flying craft, bringing an aura of wonder back to flying and planes. The aeroplane is transformed from a banal, functional means of transport into a living creature, a fantastic object born of children’ s dreams which is able to fly not because of the laws of physics but through pure imaginative energy.

The origins of Līdaka’s dream engineering miracle are found in his spontaneous drawings and paintings which later materialise into refined spatial objects.  

The sculpture “The Walker” grew out of an idea about non-flying, land-walking fantasy aircraft with many wheels. Conversely, “Mr. Corbusier” is a small sculpture made from painted linden tree wood and metal parts inspired by the "Notre Dame du Haut" (1955) chapel designed by French-Swiss architect Le Corbusier.
